Study Abroad Story Time

Join us for an evening of study abroad stories from 6-7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 24 in 0101 Carver!

At the conclusion of the event, two $250 Scholarships will be given away to any LAS student participating on any ISU program, or any LAS sponsored program. The scholarships will be awarded at the time of travel. Student must be present in order to win.

About the Storytellers

 

Tim Dorn

Tim Dorn is a Mechanical Engineering major and Languages and Cultures for Professions (LCP) German. He plays the saxophone in the Iowa State Marching Band. Prior to attending Iowa State, Tim knew he wanted to continue his learning German and was encouraged by his instructors to explore international experiences like studying and working abroad.

 

 

Christa Heffern

Christa Heffern is an Animal Science and International Agriculture major with a minor in Languages and Cultures for Professions (LCP) Spanish. When Christa first came to Iowa State, she knew she wanted to keep learning Spanish but didn’t know what that would be like at college. She learned about the LCP program and the chance to study abroad while continuing her Spanish education. In Spring 2019, Christa participated Cáceres study abroad program and had the opportunity to expand her knowledge about the culture and language of Spain while learning how to travel and be more culturally aware. This program taught her what it takes to learn and live in another country, which is what she plans to do after graduation.

 

Ruby Crow

Ruby Crow is a Public Relations major and General Business minor. She is the Vice President of Event Management of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority, the morale captain for Dance Marathon, is a member of PRSSA and a member of Fraternal Values Society. In the Spring of 2020, Ruby studied abroad in Urbino, Italy with the Greenlee School of Journalism and Communication. Reflecting on her time in Urbino, Ruby says “studying abroad was one of the best experiences of my life and even though my experience got cut short, I wouldn’t trade my time there for anything.”

 

 

Taylor Stoeckler

Taylor Stoeckler is a Study Abroad Specialist for LAS Study Abroad. She attended Iowa State as an undergraduate student and majored in Marketing and International Studies. As a student, Taylor studied abroad four times including a Spring Break program in Florence, Italy, a summer in Alicante, Spain, and Prague, Czech Republic, and a semester in Alicante, Spain. Taylor also stayed a couple months after her spring semester program in Alicante, Spain ended for an internship with a study abroad provider to assist with on-site summer program coordination. Taylor’s experiences abroad have led her to the career she has today in international education assisting students with pursuing their goals abroad.
